The ongoing vigil held in front of the Council of Europe (CoE) with the motto “Freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan” continues in week 354 with TCS members taking over.
A mass alternating hunger strike will start today in front of the CoE building in Strasbourg, France where one of the most important indefinite nonalternating hunger strike against the isolation imposed upon Ocalan continues.
The alternating hunger strike will kick off with a press statement in front of the CoE, which has also been home to the Freedom for Ocalan Vigil for almost 7 years. The vigil was held by Kurdish Women’s Movement Europe (TJK-E) members Naile Kurt, Cemile Aslan, Xane Yildiz and Ayne Yalcin from southern Germany.
This week, young members of the Tevgera Ciwanen Soresger (TCS) are holding the vigil in Strasbourg.
“WE AIM TO DEFINITIVELY BREAK THE ISOLATION”
Ferzad Dino spoke in the name of the TCS group and said the Kurdish youth will never accept the isolation against Ocalan or his imprisonment. Dino stressed that Ocalan’s imprisonment is the shackling of the Kurdish people as a whole and said the Kurdish youth will uphold their Leader.
The TCS member quoted Ocalan and said, “We started young, we will prevail young,” and added that Ocalan has made the whole world acknowledge the Kurds. The activists said Ocalan’s views are like orders for them and that their priority is to definitively break the isolation imposed upon the Kurdish People’s Leader.
The TCS member pointed to the Seri Hilde campaign they launched for the freedom of Ocalan and Kurdistan and added that the struggle by Kurdish youth will play a determining role.
A VIGIL FOR ALMOST 7 YEARS
A total of 354 groups and some 2.000 Kurdistanis and European allies have participated in the vigil launched on June 25, 2012 for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan. The vigil has had the opportunity to meet face to face with hundreds of thousands of people from various countries around the world and speak about Ocalan’s ideas.
The vigil is held on the Avenue de L’Europe where the CoE building also stands. The offices of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) are also very close to the vigil grounds.
