A French court has rejected a demand for conditional release of Ömer Güney, the main suspect in the assassination of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez in French capital Paris on 9 January, 2013.
In response to Güney's demand for conditional release due to “health problems”, the court board recalled Güney's previous attempt at prison break, and remarked that his release would be risky. The court grounded the rejection of Güney's demand on his targeting the three revolutionary women during the process of peace talks for the resolution of the Kurdish question, his harming the public conscience and sabotaging the peace process.
While Güney attended the hearing via video-conference and demanded a conditional release, stating that two sisters of his are doctors in Turkey, the court board concluded that Güney's state of health was deteriorating but that he could be treated in prison. The court also decided to ask for a renewed report on Güney's medical condition.
