A Kurdish hairdresser was attacked in the city centre of Roubaix on December 26, three days after the murder of three Kurdish activists in Paris on December 23.
Sources close to the investigation confirmed that the attack was carried out by a Turk.
The prosecutor's office announced that the 47-year-old Turkish client of the hairdresser who carried out the attack was taken into custody. An investigation has been launched against the attacker for an attempted murder. However, the prosecutor's office did not provide any information on the motive of the attack.
According to the prosecutor's office, the 27-year-old Kurdish hairdresser, originally from South Kurdistan, received multiple wounds from his client with scissors.
A source close to the investigation told AFP that the injured Kurd overcame a life-threatening situation after an operation. The same source confirmed that playing Kurdish music in the barbershop was the reason for the attack.
It is reported that the attacker had a previous criminal record with the police, while the attacked Kurd did not have any.
David Guiraud, a parliamentarian of the Northern region from the left-wing party La France Insoummise, wrote on Twitter that the attack was carried out over Kurdish music.
Guiraud said: “I heard that a Kurd was stabbed for playing Kurdish music in his barbershop in the city of Roubaix. I asked the governor for confirmation.”
The left-wing deputy demanded that “protecting the Kurds from attacks should be an absolute priority.”
