The French Senate honored YPJ Spokeswoman Rûksan Mihemed and YPG Spokesman Nuri Mahmoud for their fight against ISIS.

A delegation from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) paid a visit to the French Senate on Friday. The AANES delegation was made up of Bedran Çiya Kurd, co-chair of the Autonomous Administration Foreign Relations Department; Abdulkerim Omer, the Autonomous Administration Europe Representative; YPJ (Women’s Defense Units) Spokeswoman Rûksan Mihemed; YPG (People’s Defense Units) Spokesman Nuri Mahmoud and Autonomous Administration France Representative Xalid Isa.

On Saturday, the French Senate honored YPJ Spokeswoman Rûksan Mihemed and YPG Spokesman Nuri Mahmoud in appreciation of their sacrifices and efforts in the fight against ISIS.

The YPG and YPJ representatives were presented with a medal by French Senator Xavier Êcoville during a Newroz reception organised by the Union of Kurdish Businessmen in France.

The ceremony was attended by the AANES delegation as well as a number of French senators and politicians.

The latest situation in North-East Syria and the ongoing attacks were addressed during the ceremony where the AANES delegation asked France and the international community to support North-East Syria.

The participants also denounced the demographic change and crimes in the occupied regions, and the latest killing of four Kurdish locals celebrating Newroz in Afrin’s Jindires district on March 20. The responsibility of the international community to stop these crimes was also highlighted.

Attendees of the ceremony saluted the women’s revolution against ISIS in North-East Syria, and the role of women in the uprisings in Iran and Rojhilat (East Kurdistan).

At the end of the ceremony, the participants discussed ways to confront the genocidal policies pursued against the Kurds and other peoples in the region.
