Funeral of HPG guerrilla Yılmaz takes place in Amed

The washing of HPG guerrilla Musa Yılmaz's remains was prevented by the police. Despite the police threat, hundreds of people in Amed bid farewell to Yılmaz.

The remains of HPG guerrilla Musa Yılmaz, who fell a martyr during clashes in Dersim on 6 May, were delivered to the family by the Forensic Medicine Institute in Malatya.

The Yılmaz family was able to go to Malatya Forensic Medicine Institute after applying to the Silvan District Governorate for a permit, given that movement restrictions are in place as a measure to counter the coronavirus outbreak.

The family, after taking Yılmaz's remains from Malatya yesterday, brought him to the Feridun Neighborhood Cemetery in Silvan district on Friday night.

The cemetery were blocked by police and the family was prevented from washing the body in the mosque. The family had to wash the body in front of their relatives' house, since the washing of the body was prevented in other mosques too. After the washing, Yılmaz was buried.

Despite the threat issued by the police in an attempt to prevent people from participating in the funeral, some hundred people joined the ceremony, together with the executives of the Help and Solidarity with Families of the disappeared Association (MEBYA-DER).
