German Green Party visits KNK in Hewler
A delegation from the German Green Party has met representatives of the KNK (Kurdistan National Congress) in Hewler during a visit to South Kurdistan to obtain the latest information regarding latest developments and the condition of refugees and internally displaced persons in the South Kurdistan region.
The German delegation, comprised of Green Party co-chairman Cem Özdemir, deputy Tom Koenigs, Spokesperson for the “Green Youth” – the youth organization of the Green Party- Theresa Kalmer and Şahap Dağ, Chairperson of Oldenburg Association of Êzîdîs, met KNK Co-Chair Nilüfer Koç and KNK members Faruk Cemil, Sruood Ahmad and Xebat Mohammed. The delegation was also accompanied by German Consul General in Hewler, Georg Enzweiler, during the visit.
Özdemir said they were paying the visit to learn what the KNK's observation and evaluation of the latest developments in South Kurdistan is.
The meeting between German Green Party members and KNK representatives witnessed a discussion of the Kurdish resistance to the ISIS and the Kurdish people's expectations from the future.
KNK Co-Chair Nilüfer Koç who talked about the fight the Kurds are giving against the ISIS, a threat risk to Kurdistan and the Middle East, pointed out that the epic resistance in Kobanê has radically changed the both national and international political equations.
Recalling that a fight is being mounted against the terrorist Al-Nusra and ISIS in Rojava for nearly three years now, Koç remarked that the ISIS attack on Sinjar did however shake the politics of South Kurdistan critically. She said both the arrival of the guerrilla to the South and the provision of immediate international aid has eliminated a significant part of the threat which -she added- however has yet to be got over with completely.
Koç called for further support from the German Green Party to help attainment of a resolution to the Kurdish question.
The meeting also witnessed a detailed discussion of the brave fight Kurdish women are waging against the ISIS, with Cem Özdemir and Tom Koenigs directing questions to the KNK delegation about the struggle of Kurdish female fighters.
