According to the monthly poll made by the Infratest Dimap company for ARD-Deutschlandtrend, 84 percent of Germans think Turkey doesn’t belong in the European Union (EU) and should not be made a member. Only 12 percent of Germans consider Turkey’s mid- or long-term accession to the EU to be a positive thing.

According to the poll, nearly 90 percent of Germans think Chancellor Angela Merkel’s and her coalition government’s actions against Tayyip Erdoğan and the AKP are not sufficient.
88 percent of the population thinks the German government should have “more resolute policies” when it comes to Turkey. This figure is up by 5 percent from February.
77 percent of Germans want Germany to impose economic sanctions on Turkey while 80 percent demand the country should remain “open to dialogue” despite all sanctions.
