Government statement: late and not enough

We heard of "collateral damages" and of "unfortunate killing of civilians" to justify massacres of the scale of that in the village of Roboski (Þýrnak province) which left at least 35 people civilians dead when Turkish warplanes stroke. Almost 20 hours after the massacre the Turkish government made a (non)statement about the massacre calling it an "unfortunate operational accident". It was up to Justice and Development Party deputy chairman Hüseyin Çelik to speak on behalf of the government.

Çelik expressed sorrow for the incident and offered his condolences to relatives of the deceased.

"If there is a mistake or negligence, it will be found out," he said.

Çelik dismissed claims that the bombing of civilians was intentional and said that "such malicious claims are untrue and should be disregarded."

The statement came late and was clearly not sufficient given the scale of the massacre.
