The Green Left Party and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) will hold a rally on 1 September, World Peace Day, in Amed. The slogan of the demonstration will be "Equal and free life for social peace".
Green Left Party Amed Provincial co-spokesperson and Organizing Committee chair, Abbas Şahin, called for participation in the rally.
Şahin told the Mesopotamia Agency (MA) that the maps drawn after the two world’s wars turned into a new war for the oppressed peoples. "When we look at the Middle East, there is a map drawn as a result of imperial wars 100 years ago. After the division of Kurdistan into four parts, the Kurdish people saw nothing but tears and blood. However, Kurds have been trying to bring a democratic solution to the fore for years."
'The peace process disturbed someone'
Şahin said: "We saw how peoples needed each other and how they needed peace during the resolution process between 2013 and 2015. But it turned out that this peace process was disturbing someone. Certain powers have made an effort to prevent peoples from internalizing the word peace."
'Peace can be achieved by talking to the right interlocutors'
Reminding that the peace process came to an end with the absolute isolation of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, Şahin continued: "Peace can be achieved by talking to the right interlocutors. In 2013-15, an expectation of peace emerged. As of 2015, when the government and certain powers saw that they were losing their space with the peace process, that process was boycotted. And the isolation process has begun. The isolation was imposed not only on Mr. Öcalan, but on society. The end of the isolation imposed on Öcalan means that many problems will be resolved as well."
'We will give the world a message of peace'
Calling for participation in the rally to be held in Station Square in Amed on 1 September, Şahin said: "A free and equal life needs to be built in order for social peace to exist. We need to express this not only on 1 September, World Peace Day, but 365 days a year. We are not in favor of violence, we are in favor of a democratic politics, an equal and free life.
This rally is very important to us, and we will launch a message of peace to the world from there. We will be demonstrating for a world and society without war, without exploitation, without plunder."
