HDK Europe calls for strong participation in demos on May 16

HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress) Europe Initiative issued a call for strong participation in demonstrations to be held with the slogan “Don’t touch the will of the people and our voice in the Parliament” on May 16.

HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress) Europe Initiative issued a call for strong  participation in demonstrations to be held with the slogan “Don’t touch the will of the people and our voice in the Parliament” on May 16.

In a written statement, HDK Europe said the government cannot be expected to tolerate the presence of the true representatives of the people in the parliament when it is focused on policies of massacre and annihilation against the people, especially after the June 7 elections.

The HDK statement pointed out that breaking down the barriers set against Kurds and true representatives of the people to keep them from participating actively in political life has made the state go into alarm mode on other developments as well, and continued as follows:

“They have set their course to a total annihilation war. After firing Davutoğlu, Erdoğan has announced that he will not step back on the war he is waging against our peoples by telling the EU to ‘change your mentality (...) We will go our way, you go your way (...) Make a deal with whoever you can, we will see! (...) There is no stepping back from the presidential system!’ when the EU asked for a change in the Antiterror Act that would make supervision and inspection of the security forces possible.

Erdoğan’s attitude shows that the approach to the HEP deputies in the past will repeat itself and now be faced by the HDP deputies. The arrest of the HEP deputies condemned Turkey to a never-ending bloody civil war. This new approach now points to a new era of war with no return that will encompass the whole region.

We demand this proposal that can pave the way to the expulsion of all marginalised communities, most of all the Kurdish people, who found representation in the HDP from the parliament be retracted immediately. We call on the members of parliament to vote “no” to this amendment that will take our future hostage by the results it will create. We demand that the political oppression on journalists, academics, NGOs and DBP municipalities end immediately and that the arrested mayors be released and reinstated immediately.

Let’s claim our deputies, let’s claim our will!

United against fascism!

We call for all conscious institutions, organisations and individuals to join the protests to be held simultaneously with the start of the parliamentary discussion of the lifting of the immunities in Turkey, in front of representation offices of Turkey, starting with embassies and consulates in Europe at 15.00 on May 16."
