HDP Adana candidate: Attack was intended to kill

Adana HDP candidate Tugay Bek said the attack on the party’s Adana office was intended to kill, as the bomb had gone off at 8.30 am just after an election coordination meeting had taken place in the office.

Adana HDP candidate Tugay Bek said the attack on the party’s Adana office was intended to kill, as the bomb had gone off at 8.30 am just after an election coordination meeting had taken place in the office. Bek added that İbrahim Yakut and Sabahattin Pişkintaş had been taken to hospital with shrapnel wounds, but that their injuries were not life threatening.

Bek said he considered it no coincidence that the attack had taken place on the day after a rally in the city and called on the government to find those responsible.

Adana branch Co-chair: 6 of our colleagues were lying on the floor

HDP Adana branch co-chair Hüseyin Yıldız said that when they went into the party office they saw 6 people, including Hüseyin Beyaz, Sabahattin Pişkinbaş and İbrahim Yakup lying on the floor. The first three were immediately taken to hospital, while the other three only had superficial injuries. “There were simultaneous explosions in Mersin and Adana. The police must find the culprits, who do not want our party’s support to grow. Our supporters must not be incited,” he added.

HDP Adana candidate Meral Danış Beştaş went to the hospital, and said that Hüseyin Beyaz was being operated on, while the other two injured HDP party workers were continuing to receive treatment.

Thousands of people gathered near the HDP building and shouted slogans condemning the attack. The police closed the Gürsel street to traffic.
