HDP: AKP is also responsible for Istanbul airport attack

HDP condemned the attack in Istanbul's Atatürk Airport and said, “The governments that support the perpetrators have great responsibility in these groups carrying out attacks this easily.”

HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ issued a statement and condemned the attack in Istanbul Atatürk Airport.

“Unfortunately, 36 citizens have lost their lives and 147 others were wounded in this inhuman attack. We offer our condolences for the families of the deceased and wish a swift recovery to the wounded. We share this pain with all of our society. We strictly condemn the terror attacks targeting civilians,” read the statement.

“MORE STRUGGLE AND SOLIDARITY AGAINST ISIS”

The statement continued: “We are witnessing the boundless escalation of attacks by groups like ISIS and the increasingly severe results thereof.”

“It is of the utmost importance that we stand in solidarity and struggle against ISIS committing crimes against humanity in a wide region, from Beirut to Reyhanlı, from Suruç to Paris, from Baghdad to Kobanê, from Tunisia to Brussels, from Ankara to Istanbul, from Iraq to Syria. The governments who support them have great responsibility in these groups carrying out attacks this easily. The mindset that builds its foreign policy on supporting barbaric gangs, that still asks ‘why the Al Nusra are considered terrorists’, is responsible also for the events of today.”

The statement continued; “Unfortunately, our citizens end up having to bear the heavy weight of faulty foreign policy, the wrongful relationships with the barbaric gangs infamous for their crimes against humanity. The results of arms transportation and logistical support that turned Syria into an unlivable country is threatening the right to life for all our citizens.

“We watch in perplexity how the political power with a total fiasco of a foreign policy and its carriers shamelessly continue to sit in their seats and strive to implement the ‘one man’ administration.”

“AKP CAN’T BRING STABILITY AND PEACE”

Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ pointed out that the government wasn’t qualified to bring stability and peace to Turkey and concluded: “The claims for stability and peace by a mindset that uses tension, polarisation, conflict and war to hold on to their power both within and with the world outside the country are void. Realizing what the outside world can see clearly inside Turkey will be a step in the right direction to say ‘stop’ to this progression.”
