The Central Executive Councils of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Green Left Party (YSP) are meeting in Ankara to set their roadmap for the coming period. The important meeting takes place today at the HDP headquarters in Ankara. Those attending the meeting will have many issues on the agenda, which is the result of intensive preparations and discussions with the grassroots about how to address the next term.
After the controversial election victory of the AKP-MHP regime in Turkey, the HDP and the Green Left Party initiated a joint renewal process. This process, which follows the radical democratic paradigm of the Kurdish freedom movement, relied on popular assemblies as a vehicle for criticism and self-criticism and proposals for change.
At the meeting in Ankara, the people's proposals will be evaluated and a roadmap for the transformation of the democratic opposition drawn up. The conference program also includes the planning of symposia, conferences and party congresses.
Another important item on the agenda will be the assessment of whether or not the HDP, threatened with closure, will cede the field entirely to the Green Left Party at its next congress.
There are several options on the table. However, there is a tendency to preserve the existence of the HDP and continue active politics under the banner of the Green Left Party, which, in turn, wants to hold its party congress in September. A new board of executives is to be appointed in advance to prepare the congress. The Green Left Party is also expected to change its name at its congress.
