HDP: Attack on the DBP aims to break the Kurdish people’s will and organisational power

In response to the raids and arrests against the DBP, the HDP said: "The will and organised force of the Kurdish people are wanted broken. However, AKP/MHP will not be able to escape defeat."

Since the early hours of the morning, Turkish police have been searching the headquarters and offices of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) in many cities in Northern Kurdistan and in Ankara.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) issued a statement on the regime's political annihilation campaign and said: "This morning, the headquarters and provincial organisations of our member party DBP were stormed as part of a political annihilation campaign and its co-chair Keskin Bayındır and numerous leaders were taken into custody. This attempted political destruction of our party and the DBP, which represents the political will of the Kurdish people, is an anti-democratic election campaign by the AKP/MHP regime. This regime instrumentalizes the judiciary and targets political institutions of society.

The HDP statement continued: "The main aim of the attack on the DBP is to break the will and organisational power of the Kurdish people in the run-up to the elections. By resorting to such anti-democratic methods before the elections, the AKP/MHP regime wants to intimidate the will of the Kurdish people, its most dynamic and strongest opponent, through war plots, legal operations and political coups.

The absolute isolation in Imralı, the torture of politicians by security forces in the middle of the street, the attacks on mothers fighting for justice and the political extermination operations against the DBP show once again that the electoral strategy of the AKP/MHP government is based on deepening the war, liquidating the opposition, suffocating the opposition media and spreading violence in society.

No one should doubt that the Kurdish people and their organised force will defeat the AKP/MHP government like the previous governments. The victory sign made by DBP Co-Chairman Keskin Bayındır during his detention is the compass for the victory of the Kurdish people and a sign that the AKP/MHP government will not escape defeat.

In this context, we call on the democratic public to stand in solidarity with the Kurdish people and their organised force and we appeal to the opposition to oppose the political tactics pushed by the AKP/MHP government with war drums and political extermination. It should be known that while the main and immediate aim of the AKP/MHP government is to break the will of the Kurdish people, it is also to subjugate the peoples of Turkey as a whole."
