HDP co-chair, Pervin Buldan was in Aydın's Didim district as part of her hectic election campaign. She was accompanied by the party’s candidate for the constituency, well known artist Ferhat Tunç.
Buldan made the speech at the opening of her party’s election office in Didim and then visited Didim Cemevi.
Speaking at the Cemevi, Buldan said: "The snap election was called because the AKP cannot rule this country. For 16 years - she added - this country has been ruled recklessly and finally the AKP has brought it to the edge of a cliff”.
Buldan remarked that the 16 years of AKP government will be remembered as the years of “the most brutal persecution, illegality, injustice, corruption. Dersim, Çorum, Sivas, Maraş, Gazi, who live on this land cannot forget the massacres. We have not forgotten the Roboski massacre”.
The HDP chair said that “all beliefs living in this country have been struggling for a long time to be able to live with their own identities. However, the government has considered the Alevis belief as a threat. They did not allow the Alevi community to use Cemevi as places of worship. If the rights of the Alevis living in this country are not accepted, we, the Sunnis, if necessary, renounce our rights. As long as the Alevi people can live with their own beliefs”.
Addressing specifically the Alevi community, Buldan continued: “Those who rule this country have usurped the rights of the Alevi community. From the day we have entered the Grand National Assembly until today, each one of our MP, have made sure to bring the demands of the Alevi community to the Parliament. But since the AKP government has the majority, the Alevi community, like the Kurdish people, has always seen its demands rejected”.
Buldan pointed out that “now Erdogan in his election manifesto says - added Buldan - that he will give the Cemevi legal status. We ask: Where have you been for 16 years? You have ignored this community for 16 years, and when it comes to the election, you remember about the Alevis”.
Buldan said that this is about to change, and the 24 June elections provide the opportunity to change. “The Alevis will see their demands met, the Kurdish people will see their demands met. So will women. We, the HDP will meet your demands once the AKP is gone”.
Buldan warned that “missing the opportunity provided for by the 24 June elections will lead to a process much worse than this. This is why - said Buldan - we need to walk together and carry out our struggle for equality”.
The HDP lists have candidates coming from all sections of the Turkish society: Kurds, Alevis, Syriac, Armenian, feminist, disabled, young candidates.
“We have an African candidate in Izmir. - reminded Buldan - This rainbow is what stands us aside. It is our wealth, we see Turkey with bright colours, not with dark and black tones”.
Reminding that there are only 27 days to go, Buldan reiterated to party members the effort needed to secure victory to the HDP.
