The HDP said that the AKP-MHP, which attacked Ibrahim Gökçek's funeral and the cemevi, committed yet another crime against humanity.
HDP deputy co-chair of the Peoples and Beliefs Commission, Tülay Hatimoğulları, issued a statement today about the attack on the Cemevi (Alevi place of worship) and funeral of Grup Yorum member Ibrahim Gökçek, who died following a death fast.
In the written statement, Hatimoğulları said: "The family and the Alevi community should receive an apologise immediately. The government, which speaks of sacred values whenever it opens its mouth, unfortunately does not hesitate to attack the values of the society even during the month of Ramadan."
The political power, reminded Hatimoğulları, "attacks the places of worship, which are the common values of peoples and beliefs, and does not respect the right to be buried, one of the spiritual values of humanity. The funeral of Grup Yorum member Helin Bölek, who was the first to die following the hunger strike, had been subjected to neither moral nor unlawful treatment. The police, who confiscated the vehicle carrying Bölek's remains, attacked the mass who came to the funeral with tear gas and did not even allow the body to be washed. The burial took place under this attack."
The statement also reminded that a few weeks ago the remains of a citizen named Agit Ipek were sent to his family by post and it also reminded of the graves and graveyards being destroyed.
The statement also condemned the attacks to the Cemevis, the centres of faith of the Alevi and added: "We strongly condemn this attack on the Alevi community before Gazi Cemevi."
