HDP deputy Beştaş: We must denounce the AKP as a coup party

Beştaş said: "Turkey is under a one-man regime. There is a wave of violence in all areas of life. We made a promise to the people to try and end this violence and make democratic demands prevail."

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group President Meral Danış Beştaş made evaluations regarding the AKP government's political genocide operations and the struggle of the party against it.

Beştaş reminded that what is going on at the moment is a “continuation of the political coup the AKP carried out following the fall in popularity on 7 June 2015.”

Beştaş added: “Everybody should denounce the AKP mentality, which is that of a coup party, everywhere. We have a coup-oriented power structure. Why is that? Because this has no legal, political or ethical basis. Our friend Leyla Güven should not have been taken into custody. The AKP is getting weaker as it hits. But we are getting stronger. We are currently witnessing yet another attack against our party which has been covered by the decision of a new coup.”

Beştaş continued: “The main goal of this attack is to disengage the HDP from other opposition parties, democracy forces and society. However, they should not forget that the HDP is not like other parties. We are really among the people and we are fighting with the people. And people will prevail.”

The HDP Group President reminded that the HDP has a three-month democratic struggle program ahead. We, as women, have been on the streets for the past two days and on 15 June we’ll begin our democracy march, which will start on 15 June. After that, we will carry out this struggle together with all segments of the society in Ankara.”

Turkey, said Beştaş to end her evaluation, is "under a one-man regime. It puts pressure in every sense economically, politically and socially. There is a wave of violence in all areas of life. We made a promise to the people to try and end this violence and make democratic demands prevail."
