HDP deputy co-chair jailed

HDP deputy co-chair Alp Altınörs who had been detained following a police raid on his house in Ankara on September 9, has been jailed.

HDP deputy co-chair Alp Altınörs has been jailed after one week in custody within the scope of an investigation run by Tokat Public Prosecutor's Office on the grounds that he attended the funeral in Tokat province of Zakir Karabulut who lost his life in the Ankara massacre of October 10, 2015.

Altınörs had been taken to Tokat where the investigation was launched, and he had started hunger strike against the unlawful attacks targeting the members of his party.

A total of 16 people including HDP Tokat provincial co-chair Kadir Akkaya and HDP Central district co-chair Erdal Bektaş had also been detained as part of simultaneous operations on September 9. The detainees were accused of "membership to a terror organisation" and "recruiting members to a terror organisation". Eight of them were referred firstly to prosecutor's office and then to court yesterday. Six of these were remanded in custody and 2 others were released on conditions of "judicial control".
Altınörs and other arrested HDP members were sent to Çamlıbel Prison this morning.
