As the indefinite-alternating hunger strikes launched by political prisoners in Turkey’s prisons demanding an end to the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues on its 104th day, the HDP Amed (Diyarbakir) Provincial Organization wanted to make a statement to call attention to the isolation and the hunger strikes.
HDP Amed deputy Remziye Tosun, administrators of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), the HDP and the Solidarity Association for Families of Prisoners (TUAY-DER) and many activists who came to attend a press release in Kosuyolu Park were blockaded by the police with intense security measures around the park. When the police stated that no press statement would be allowed, HDP deputy Tosun responded to the police intervention.
'LET'S NOT BE SILENT'
Tosun said, “Let's not be silent about the isolation and hunger strikes. As long as we remain silent, the isolation will continue to spread to the whole society.”
While Tosun was making a speech, the police did not allow the journalists to shoot video and prevented them, saying, "If you do not have a yellow press card, you cannot shoot."
SIT-IN PROTEST
After Tosun's speech, the activists shouted "Bijî berxwedana zindana" (long live the prison resistance) and responded to the police intervention with applause and ululations. The group staged a brief sit-in there.
