HDP MP Hezer stripped of parliamentary seat

Turkish Parliamentary Joint Commission has decided to revoke the parliamentary membership of HDP Van deputy Tuğba Hezer.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Van deputy Tuğba Hezer has lost her seat in parliament due to lack of attendance.

Following a statement of defense by HDP Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Turkish Parliamentary Joint Commission has today agreed on revocation of Hezer's parliamentary membership due to absence by a majority vote.

The decision on Hezer will be brought up at the plenary session in the following days and Hezer's parliamentary membership will be revoked officially with absolute majority vote (276) in the event of the same decision coming out of the session.

Parliamentary membership of HDP Co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ, who is jailed since November 2016, was also revoked in February, and of Amed MP Nursel Aydoğan in early May.
