Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, a member of parliament for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and a member of the Human Rights Committee in Turkey's parliament, has spoken to ANF on the "Human Rights Action Plan" announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Koçyiğit criticized the announcement of the new action plan, calling the expectation for a democratic constitution an illusion: "I do not believe that the ruling coalition of Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) can take any step towards human rights, democracy, equality or justice. A government that already disregards the rights defined in the current constitution cannot produce a more democratic and liberal constitution, nor can it produce a human rights action plan. To expect this would be pure illusion."

Koçyiğit said on the conditions in Turkish prisons and the government's treatment of prisoners, "We are talking about a government that runs prisons like concentration camps." The HDP politician argued that the Turkish government is "a government that has used the pandemic as a pretext to deprive prisoners of rights and exacerbate the already grim conditions of prisoners who are already living in severe isolation."

According to Koçyiğit, the conditions of prisons in Turkey and the isolation conditions on Imralı Island are "a special focus" of the HDP's recently announced "Justice for All" campaign. Regarding the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, she said, "We believe that the Imralı issue is not independent of these discussions. Imralı is the basis of the injustices we all suffer. The Imralı issue is about exposing a regime of injustice. Imralı is the place that reveals the king in his naked glory."
