People’s Democratic Party (HPD) MPs will be in front of Turkish Constitutional Court every Thursday, HDP spokesperson Osman Baydemir said.
The Conscience and Justice Vigil by HDP MPs in front of Turkish Constitutional Court ended with a press conference today. HDP MPs including Osman Baydemir, Nimetullah Erdogmus, Meral Danis Bestas, Mithat Sincar and Celal Dogan attended the event. Representatives from Peace Mothers Initiative, Ankara Women’s Platform and lawyers were also present.
Speaking at the action in Ankara, HDP MP and party spokesperson Osman Baydemir said “MPs of Turkey’s third biggest party and a MP from Turkey’s main opposition party is now in prison. A total of 11 MPs are in prison. (…) It’s a constitutional crime that they stand trial while they are arrested. (…) The Constitutional court still did not make it clear how a MP should stand trial. It's because of that our co-president Figen Yuksekdag has stripped off her parliamentary rights.”
Baydemir called for immediate release of imprisoned MPs and said that they will be in front of the Turkish Constitutional Court every Thursday until HDP MPs will be free.
HDP Istanbul MP Celal Dogan also spoke at the event. He pointed to the Constitutional Court building and said: “Sooner of later those people who are in this building will need justice”.
