HDP's Piroğlu: Let's celebrate 1 May everywhere

HDP Deputy Musa Piroğlu criticised the blockade of Taksim Square, hours before the 1 May, International Workers' Day, and stressed that everywhere should be turned into a celebration area today.

HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) deputy Piroğlu talked to ANF and recellad that every 1 May in Turkey had ended with great oppression and brutality.

Pointing out that fraud has been added to the ongoing obstacles and prohibitions, Piroğlu reminded that the government imposed 1 meter social distance and strictly forces it upon those who want to celebrate 1 May, while saying nothing when it comes to the workers who are forced to work shoulder to shoulder.

Piroğlu said: "1 May means opposition to them. It is the name of rebellion against the misery imposed by the government, against the policies of the capital and bosses. On May 1, they have declared a curfew. They were opportunists again. They both continue production in all collective branches, and try to prevent the celebration of 1 May, even symbolically, under the pretext of the pandemic. We should not surrender to the panic and anxiety that government wants to create through this prohibitions. Wherever we are, we should celebrate the Labor Day. The working class and revolutionary movements should find ways to use the streets. We should celebrate Labour Day everywhere, on construction sites, in neighborhoods, on the streets."

'Workers are not alone'

Reminding that he had an accident while working in construction in 1988 when he was studying at the university, HDP deputy Musa Piroğlu emphasized that he knows well what it means for workers to be forced to choose between death and work accident, pandemic and unemployment. "Workers are not alone, - he said - they, we will continue to struggle until this wheel of exploitation is destroyed."
