HDP's Saçılık says 'Twin Family' campaign is building solidarity

HDP executive Veli Saçılık, once again called for solidarity, stating that the 'Twin Family Campaign' they initiated is not an aid campaign but a solidarity one.

HDP executive Veli Saçılık spoke to ANF about the 'Twin Family Campaign' launched by the party.

After the coronavirus epidemic began to spread in Turkey many people were faced with economic problems and unemployment.  Saçılık said: "People were left in a very difficult situation economically. Many small businnesses were forced to close down and could not pay their employees while the State provided no help."

The HDP, recalled Saçılık, launched a 'Twin Family campaign'. "The reason for this is not to get a parcel and leave in the house of the people, as the AKP does: this is not a gift of the rich to the poor. We launched such a campaign to ensure that people hold hands and strengthen their ties despite of the forced physical distance."

We reached 21,000 people

Stating that there are still a lot of demands, Saçılık added: "The number of people we have reached so far has exceeded 21,000. Of course, there are food packages. left and cash given, but above all this has to do with saying hello friend, hello comrade. We thought it as a work that could lay the foundation in terms of organising."

Saçılık said: "Some of our party friends have reached lonely people who are endangering their own lives in order to avoid hunger. On the other hand, people who wanted to show solidarity have emerged. In other words, we organized a work where good people are equal, shoulder to shoulder, and nobody is superior to the other. What we are saying is: we can find bread, we can live today. But we have friends who are in a very difficult situation."

Saçılık continued: "Many people working in small businesses such as cafes and bars are now in a very difficult situation. We can make life beautiful also by sharing problems. This is the base of our policy. We make politics for the people. We do solidarity, not aid. At the same time, we started to work for the organisation of producers and for organized consumers who look out for nature with this campaign."
