HDP Turgutlu co-chairs jailed

The Turkish government’s political genocide operations against the Kurdish people and their elected representatives continue unabated.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Turgutlu district branch co-chairs, Mesut Hayri Bökü and Naile Gümüştaş, who were taken into custody in Manisa province on February 14, have been remanded in custody.

The co-chairs were taken into custody as part of an investigation launched in May, 2021. After 8 days in custody, they were referred to court with a request for their arrest.

Both Bökü and Gümüştaş have been remanded in custody for alleged “membership in a terrorist organization”. Bökü was sent to the T Type Prison and Gümüştaş to the E Type Prison in Manisa.
