The Kurdish Red Crescent, Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê, held its annual congress in Troisdorf and celebrated its thirtieth anniversary at the same time. Active members of the association and guests attended the event. The chairman of the association, Dr Rojvan Bilgin, welcomed those present and thanked all those who contributed to the foundation of the aid organisation and who have been involved in humanitarian work in Kurdistan since 1993. In his speech, Bilgin also remembered deceased members.
The work and mission of Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê is a thorn in the side of the Turkish state and all the enemies of the Kurdish people, Bilgin stated. “For this reason, the association has repeatedly been subjected to repression in the past decades. Despite attacks, obstructions, pressure and bans, Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê has been a ray of hope for those affected by massacres and disasters for thirty years and has supported those in need in Kurdistan. No distinction has been made between Rojava, Rojhilat, Bakur and Bashur. Our association has grown over all these years. At the same time, there are more and more people in need due to attacks, natural disasters, poverty and illness. The people in Kurdistan are resisting. As an aid organisation, it is our task to provide them with humanitarian aid. We need to improve our work at all levels to meet the need," Bilgin stated.
At the congress, the work of the aid organisation was acknowledged in several guest speeches. Afterwards, the work of the past year was evaluated. The need to increase the number of members due to the growing need and to expand the work in the form of fundraising, campaigns and joint projects with international organisations was emphasised. After the election of the board, there was a celebration with live music and dancing.
