HPG’s 2011 war statement

HPG (People’s Defense Forces) Main Headquarters released its statement about the 2011 balance of operations and clashes. The statement remarked that the Turkish army had carried out 680 operations, aerial, mortar, artillery and howitzer attacks. According to the statement, 505 soldiers and police officers had died and 165 guerrillas lost their lives in the mentioned attacks and actions during the year.

Noting that a new period of struggle began with the new year, the HGP statement said that; “2012 will be the year of a struggle to ensure a free Leader and Free Kurdistan through an effective resistance and a Popular Revolutionary War."

HPG’s 2011 war statement is as follows;

-The Turkish army carried out 236 operations, 68 cobra, 126 aerial and 250 mortar and howitzer attacks.

-Guerrilla forces carried out 167 actions.

-The Turkish army and guerrilla forces lived 45 hot encounters.

-While guerrillas captured 55 teachers and clashing soldiers and police officers of the Turkish state, 22 guerrillas were taken captive over the past year.

-58 military vehicles were destroyed during the clashes in guerrilla actions.

-Fire broke out in 43 forests as a result of the attacks carried out by Turkish army.

-More than 50 civilians were brutally slaughtered and dozens were wounded during the attacks of Turkish army which also caused great damage dozens of times in fields and living areas of the region’s people.

The statement added that these figures didn’t include those of recent clashes in Bingöl and Cudi areas since the numbers couldn’t be clarified because of winter conditions.
