Hunger strike actions spread all over Europe

Hunger strikes in support to HDP Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven demanding freedom for Öcalan spread all over Europe.

The hunger strike imprisoned HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Hakkari deputy and DTK (Democratic Society Congress) co-chair Leyla Güven started with the demand that the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan be lifted has reached day 29. Kurds and their friends are on hunger strike all over Europe to support Leyla Güven demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan.

Cologne

In Cologne, Germany, a hunger strike was joined by 85 people to protest the isolation imposed on Öcalan.
The action was held in front of the historic Dom church in Cologne. Among the people attended were HDP former deputies Nursel Aydoğan, Tuğba Hezer, KCK-E Co-Chair Yüksel Koç and artist Xelil Xemgin.


Photos of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and a banner saying “Let's break isolation, break fascism, free Kurdistan” were hanged at the action site.

Berlin

A hunger strike began in Berlin, the capital of Germany, demanding the removal of the isolation regime imposed Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The action was announced with a press conference at the Brandenburg Gate.


NAV-DEM co-chair, Melek Yula, read the press release explaining the reasons of the action.

Yule drew attention to human rights violations in Kurdistan and to the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Yule also saluted the hunger strike carried out by HDP Hakkari deputy, Leyla Güven.

The organisers invited people to join the hunger strike and support Leyla Güven.

The hunger strike, led by a group of activists, is expected to last 10 days and takes place at the association of the Democratic Kurdish Community Center of Germany (NAV-DEM) in Berlin.


Stuttgart

A 10-day solidarity hunger strike was launched in Stuttgart, Germany. Lokman Hedil, one of the spokespersons for the hunger strikers, noted that the isolation imposed on Öcalan was worsening day after day.


Marseille

Kurdish people and their friends in Marseille, Montpellier, Marignan, Draguingnan, started a hunger strike action in Marseille in front of the governorship.

The action began with a minute silence and statements were read in French and Turkish.

A large poster of the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, as well as PKK flags were carried at the scene of the action.

Limassol

In Limassol, Cyprus, Kurdish people started a 4-day hunger strike to protest against the isolation imposed on Kurdish people’s Leader.

The action was promoted by Theophilos Kurdish Cultural Center.

Speaking here, Theofilos Kurdish Cultural Center Co-Chair Fatma Jirki commended DTK Co-Chair and HDP Deputy Leyla Güven resistance.


The hunger strike will last until Sunday.


Athens

A hunger strike action was lunched in Athens, Greece. The hunger strike organized by the Kurdistan Culture Center started with a minute silence. Lezgin Serhed, one of the leaders of the Kurdistan Culture Center, gave a speech here, and drew attention to the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Serhed said that the actions will continue until isolation is lifted and called on Kurdish people to join the actions. 


Vienna

In Vienna Kurds have began a hunger strike action to protest against the isolation imposed on Öcalan and the international silence.
The preparation committee said that the action will last 20 days.

London

In London, capital city of England, a hunger strike demanding an end to the isolation of Öcalan has been launched. The hunger strike action is taking place in a tent set up in front of Manor House Station in North London which is densely populated by people from Kurdistan and Turkey.

15 people are joining the hunger strike which is being supported by a large number of people.
