Hunger strike against isolation in front of the EP

A hunger strike and sit-in action against the isolation of Öcalan has been launched in front of the European Parliament.

As part of the growing resistance demanding the end of isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, a hunger strike and sit-in action has been launched in front of the European Parliament (EP) with the participation of hundreds of people.

A five-day sit-in action has been started in Strasbourg where already 14 Kurdish activists have been on hunger strike since 17 December, joining the action of DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Güven who went on an indefinite hunger strike on 7 November 2018.

The action in Strasbourg calls on European countries to take immediate action considering the quickly worsening health conditions of the hunger strike activists, the majority of whom have left three months behind.

Speeches held at the action stressed that the resistance will continue to grow even more.

KARTAL: KURDISH PEOPLE ARE OUT OF PATIENCE

Speaking here, KONGRA-GEL Co-president Remzi Kartal stressed that the Kurdish people are out of patience against the isolation imposed on their leader.

He recalled that in addition to dozens of activists in Turkey, Kurdistan and Europe, thousands of prisoners in Turkey and North Kurdistan are also on indefinite hunger strike against the isolation of Öcalan.

Remarking that four prisoners have carried out sacrifice actions and ended their life in recent days, Kartal stressed that the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and other concerned institutions, authorities and states should urgently take action.

TJK-E: KURDISH WOMEN WILL LEAD THE RESISTANCE

Speaking on behalf of the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E), Zozan Serhat emphasised that the Kurdish people will never accept isolation, pointing to the great sacrifice resistance against the captivity and isolation of Öcalan. The TJK-E strongly criticised the states, authorities and institutions that are silent on the isolation policy executed by the AKP-MHP fascism against Öcalan. Serhat said Kurdish women will be leading the strongest resistance against isolation, adding that the struggle will be enhanced until the isolation is broken.

DİCLE: EVEN THE MOST DEMOCRATIC DEMANDS ARE NOT ANSWERED

Prominent Kurdish politician Hatip Dicle, a former member of the Turkish Parliament, noted that the hunger strike resistance against the aggravated isolation in place since 2015, continues spreading.

Underlining that the Kurdish people will break the isolation imposed by the AKP-MHP fascism, Dicle called attention to the attitude of European states. Recalling how Europe had defeated fascism in its own history, Dicle remarked that the membership or candidacy criteria implemented for the Council of Europe and the European Union are not applied when Turkey is in question.

Dicle reminded that the Kurds and other peoples fighting with them have given 11 thousand martyrs in their battle against the ISIS gangs that have committed massacres in European countries too. He said that in response to this, even the most democratic demands are not answered.

KOÇ: SILENCE IS COMPLICITY

Speaking on behalf of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), Co-chair Nilüfer Koç pointed out that the European countries are supporting the fascist policies of the Turkish state by remaining silent on the isolation of Öcalan.
