Hunger strike in Strasbourg: Day 148

Today the 14 activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg reached day 148 of their fast demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The hunger strike resistance in Strasbourg has led the action in Europe and continued to do so after the visit to Öcalan by his lawyers, 8 years after the last meeting they had with the Kurdish people’s leader in Imrali. 

Activists in Strasbourg had said that although an important development the visit by lawyers on 2 May did not actually meant the end of isolation. Thus their decision to continue in their action. 

Many people, including politicians and artists, visited the protesters on Sunday. Among others were politician Demir Çelik, one of the HDK European executives, and artist Zarife Zerrin. 

Many activists are already bed-ridden and families have been there all the time to provide the support they need. 

The health condition of some of the activists is alarming. Doctor Fahrettin Gülşen has warned especially about problems with internal organs and the risk of permanent damage.

The 14 activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg are: Gülistan İke, Dilek Öcalan, Nurgül Başaran, Mustafa Sarıkaya, Mehmet Nimet Sevim, Yüksel Koç, Deniz Sürgüt, Kardo Bokani, Ramazan İmir, Ekrem Yapıcı, Ayvaz Ece, Mohamad Ghaderi, Agit Ural and Kerem Solhan.
