Shengal Diaspora Assembly administrators are on indefinite hunger strike since August 23, while other groups join in 5 day intervals in solidarity. Following the first 5-day group from the Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA) members, Europe Êzîdî Federation members have joined the hunger strike yesterday.
The hunger strikers were seen to be exhausted, partially due to the excessive heat. Dr. Fahrettin Gülşen is carrying out regular health checks.
Activists continued to inform the public yesterday and passed out flyers for the attendees of the Sunday mass in the La Trés Sainte-Trinité church they are hosted by.
CHURCH ADMINISTRATION PROMISES TO TAKE THE DEMANDS TO CE AND CPT
The church’s priest met with the hunger strikers and the demands were repeated to him yesterday. The activists asked the priest to take their call for awareness to the Council of Europe (CE) and Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT).
The priest said they supported this demonstration by Êzîdîs and promised to take these demands he finds “quite humane” to the CPT and the CE. The priest also said they announced the matter to the Catholic congregation through their web site.
VISITS FROM DIDF AND SAINT AVOLD MOSQUE
The hunger strike was visited by people from Kurdistan and Turkey from nearby cities on the 6th day as well. Committees from DIDF Strasbourg representation office and Saint Avold Selahattini Eyyubi Mosque visited the hunger strike and offered support.
VISIT TO CPT ON MONDAY
Meanwhile, a group of hunger strikers will visit CPT today and present a file regarding their demands. The group will demand a committee visit the Kurdish Poeple’s Leader in the İmralı island prison and address concerns regarding his situation.
The hunger strike also aims to make the international community recognize Shengal’s status.
