Hunger strike in Strasbourg on day 9

The hunger strike launched in Strasbourg, France to protest the aggravated isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan and demand his freedom, wellbeing and safety is on day 9.

Kurds in Europe and representatives and administrators from leftist and democratic institutions visited the hunger strikers yesterday.

Kurdish politician Bedrettin Kavak, Tuncay Yilmaz from the SYKP and Kemal Bilgit from the Kurdistan Communist Party were among the visitors as well as groups from Frankfurt, Paris, Belgium and Stuttgart.

Bedrettin Kavak, Tuncay Yilmaz and Kemal Bilgit spoke to the ANF.

Bedrettin Kavak: The purpose of this action is to break the isolation and to ensure Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s health, safety and freedom. The isolation is part of the war concept against the Kurdish people. The action is also important in terms of showing that we embrace the common life philosophy Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan put forth. Results should be sought through diplomacy.

Omer Koyuncu from P-KAN (Platforma Kurden Anatolia Navin): First, we condemn the isolation imposed upon Leader Apo. We salute the protest by Leyla Guven, my friend, comrade and compatriot. The action she started has shown us the path of resistance. We will participate in all actions and events aiming to end the isolation imposed upon the Leader. My call for Central Anatolian Kurds and all peoples of Kurdistan is: Embrace this action strongly. Don’t forget that the Leader’s freedom is the freedom of the Kurdish people. We must raise our voice everywhere.

Ismail Bozukluhan: I have full confidence that the Kurdish people to come together around the Leader and organize around his philosophy, to fight to ensure emancipation. To make sure Leyla Guven achieves a positive outcome, we must all make our voice heard through demonstrations and protests wherever we are.

Ferhat Gumusboga: The action Leyla Guven started has spread throughout Kurdistan and Europe. It has blossomed new hope in the Kurdish people. We have full faith that the action will achieve results. An unlimited nonalternating hunger strike is a great honor and source of pride for the Kurdish people. We salute the friends who have put forth this will. Our only goal is to come together around this action. We must remember that the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan is against the Kurdish people.

Kemal Bilgit: Breaking this isolation is a joint duty for the peoples of Kurdistan and Turkey. Because we all have a fundamental duty to push back the fascist initiatives of the Turkish state. Society is at a point where nobody can breathe easy in Turkey. The fundamental bout of fresh air in this tiresome period is to break the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan. To break the isolation will also be a break in the unlawfulness in Turkey. We embrace the action by our friends and we stand with them.

Tuncay Yilmaz: The isolation imposed upon Mr. Abdullah Ocalan is one of the key points of the fascism under construction today in Turkey through the AKP-MHP coalition and the old status quo powers. I have a call to make here. I would like to say, the Kurdish people are doing all they can to build their own Leadership, the Leader’s paradigm and peace in Kurdistan and throughout the Middle East. My call is for the peoples of Turkey. If you think about your own future, about justice and your lives, we must find a way to reconcile with the Kurdish people. We must find a formula that would satisfy their demand to live a free, equal life.

Thus we must do all we can to end the isolation imposed upon Mr. Ocalan. My second call is for the peoples of Europe and the world: We know that peoples speak the language of peoples, not states. Those who fear ISIS and that the war in the Middle East will come to their country, those who worry about the migrant crisis today should know that the struggle the Kurdish people have waged in Kurdistan and Rojava Kurdistan has prevented big waves of migration and offered a point of view for people to continue living on their own lands.

That is why it is not just international solidarity with a people to defend Ocalan and to demand an end to the isolation imposed upon him, it is a question of existence for the peoples of Europe.
