A five-day hunger strike has been launched in Greek capital Athens for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
A hunger strike has been launched in front of the parliament in the Greek capital Athens. The hunger strike is called by the Greece People’s Assembly, will continue for 5 days with the motto “Öcalan’s freedom is our freedom, his health is our health” and will end with a rally.
The demonstration started as a tent was set up at 10.00 in the morning in Syntagma Square in front of the parliament.
Greeks and Turkish socialists will also join the hunger strike along with Kurds. The preparation committee has announced they have launched the hunger strike in solidarity with the hunger strike in front of the CPT by the Shingal Diaspora Assembly.
“WE WILL BE ON THE STREETS EVERY DAY FOR ÖCALAN”
Kendal Semsur made a statement in the name of the Preparation Committee about the aim of the hunger strike:
“We as Kurds living in Greece are greatly concerned for the conditions of isolation imposed upon Leader Apo. Our concerns on Leader Apo’s health and safety have risen following the July 15 coup attempt. Leader Apo’s analyses on the Fethullah-supporters who are said to be behind the coup are the fundamental reason for our concern. It is clear that they will want to target Leder Apo because of his analyses. Who can guarantee that a group such as these people who have killed hundreds of people with jet fighters, helicopters and tanks won’t target İmralı? The public in Turkey knows all too well that the Fethullah-supporters have championed enmity against Apo and PKK for years in order to take over the state. All these show the urgency of the need to hear from Leader Apo and his health and safety. We will be in action on the streets every day until we hear from our Leader.”
The activists put up a banner that read “Freedom for Öcalan” on the tent and continue their demonstration with passing out flyers and Öcalan’s Athens defense.
