The identities of 27 guerrillas buried in mass graves have been disclosed by People’s Defense Forces (HPG).
HPG has ascertained the identities of guerrillas that died in two separate clashes in Bago Mountain region of Nusaybin/Mardin in 1999 and were buried in two separate mass graves. When news came of two mass graves discovered in Bagok Mountain, HPG went even deeper in their search and disclosed identities of the guerrillas most probably buried in those mass graves.
‘THEY WERE DITCHED, NOT BURIED’
It was said that the 20 guerrillas buried in a mass grave on the foothills of Bagok Mountain belong to guerrillas who lost their life in clashes between the Turkish army and guerrilla forces on 20 January 1999.
HPG sources gave the following information: “The operation started with the landing on Bagok Company Hill and was followed by cobra helicopters and special operation groups. The guerrilla group consisted of 20 persons. 18 PKK members who lost their life due to Turkish army’s bombardment with cobra helicopters were ditched in a 30 square meter pit of half a meter depth, 6 meters length”.
‘THEY WERE CAUGHT ALIVE AND EXECUTED’
It was noted that two guerrillas who were captured live after the clash were executed and one was buried in another pit. One other guerrilla captured alive was murdered and ditched in a small pit on the mountain’s foot.
‘SEVEN GUERRILLAS AMBUSHED’
The investigation by HPG shed light on the details on a second mass grave where 7 guerrillas are buried, that on Baðok Mountain foot. In the mass grave the bodies of 7 guerrillas including PKK Mardin State Coordinator (Felat) code named Mehmet Özaydýn (who died in a clash one day after the clash where 20 guerrillas lost their life) are buried.
”While PKK guerrillas were targeted with cobra helicopters, a group of guerrillas including state commander Felat code named Mehmet Özaydýn and Mazlum code named Nurullah Erdem. The bodies were not found afterward. We reached an estimation that Mehmet Özaydýn died with a bullet shot on head” noted the statement.
