Support is growing for the HDP from politicians in South Kurdistan. Former Gorran Movement MP Abdullah Mele Nuri said the success of this project would mean a democratic solution of the Kurdish question and peace in the Middle East.
Last week 225 writers and political figures held a press conference at which they called on Kurds to take ownership of the HDP.
Former Gorran Movement MP Abdullah Mele Nuri called on everyone who wanted the Kurdish question to be resolved through peaceful democratic means to unite around the HDP.
The HDP is a democracy front
Mele Nuri said the HDP was entering the 7 June elections as a democracy front, adding: “There are those that want to keep the Kurds outside politics and to reduce the Kurdish question to one of conflict. But the Kurds want to resolve the issue by democratic means. Different segments of society have united around the HDP. This is a significant opportunity which should be taken advantage of.”
‘Not a single vote should be wasted’
Mele Nuri called on Kurds to cast their votes for the HDP, saying that they had voted for other parties in the past and that none of them had resolved the Kurdish question. “On the contrary, the response has been war. The Kurds in North Kurdistan and in Europe should vote for the HDP to ensure not just that the HDP exceeds the threshold, but so that there is a large representation in parliament,” he added.
‘The press and media must play a role’
Mele Nuri said the Kurdish media had a role to play in this crucial election. “The Kurdish press and media should make a special effort as for the Kurds this is a historic turning point. In the last two weeks before the election the Kurdish media should lend support to the HDP.”
‘If the HDP wins regional peace will win’
Mele Nuri said the HDP represented a force for resolution in the region, where sectarian and ethnic wars were raging. “The HDP has emerged as a result of the peoples’ demands for democracy, equality and freedom. Consequently, if the HDP succeeds it will have an influence on the entire region. Dictators and colonialists are uncomfortable at the prospect of the HDP succeeding, as they know this project could set off a chain reaction throughout the region.” Mele Nuri concluded by calling on everyone to support and take ownership of the HDP project.
