Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council 33rd Session in Geneva, Derek Brett on behalf of IFOR said the Turkish state has destroyed many Kurdish cities through military operations and subjected people to extrajudicial killings, torture and forced displacement.

The 33rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council continues on its second day with opinions of non-governmental organisations.

'WOMEN AND CHILDREN MAIN VICTIMS OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST'

Representatives of many non-governmental organisations spoke during today's session, that all pointed to the increasing violence in the Middle East and other countries around the world.

NGO representatives put emphasis on ISIS terror attacks and increasingly ongoing human right violations caused by the conflict across the Middle East territory. Speakers also stated that world countries did not put forth democratic politics in the face of these human rights violations.

NGO representatives highlighted that civilians, mainly women and children, suffer from violence at the hands of states across the Middle East, and many states around the world subject people to torture, extrajudicial killings and death, mainly in Pakistan, Iran, Syria and Iraq. Speakers also mentioned numerous human rights violations perpetrated all around the world that are not seen by the United Nations.

'TURKEY HAS DESTROYED CITIES WITH MILITARY OPERATIONS'

Speaking during the session, Derek Brett on behalf of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) recalled that the Turkish state has razed many cities in the Kurdish region to the ground by means of military operations.

Brett said: "Our local contacts in Turkey report us about a huge scale of human rights violations in the southeastern region of the country. Civilians are being targeted through military operations and suffering extrajudicial killings. Residents of the destroyed cities are subject to forced displacement."

 IFOR representative Derek Brett called on Turkey to open its door to the UN and return to peace talks with Kurds immediately.
