Mehmet Ali Çelebi, a 70-year-old prisoner, was released from Sincan Prison in Ankara on 25 August due to the worsening of his illness. He was taken to an intensive care unit as the blood cancer he was suffering from had spread to the lungs. Çelebi passed away in Başakşehir Çam Sakura City Hospital, where he was being treated.
The Human Rights Association (IHD) had repeatedly requested the postponement of the execution for Çelebi who suffered from blood cancer and kidney failure and needed to be taken to the hospital 5 days a week.
