The German guerrilla fighter Jakob Riemer (Şîyar Gabar) died four years ago today during a Turkish military operation in Çarçella. A friend remembers him.
Today is the anniversary of the death of Şîyar Gabar, Jakob Riemer: a friend, revolutionary comrade, son and brother who decided young to fight the resistance for a liberated world in the mountains of Kurdistan. A person who still has a firm place in many hearts and is remembered fondly and with pleasure with all his facets and stories. A revolutionary who - as he put it - set out in search of a free life. On 9 July 2018, Jakob Riemer, Şehîd Şîyar Gabar, was killed in a Turkish military operation in the northern Kurdish town of Çarçella.
People who reach our hearts can set so many things in motion in us. So much that what we would never have dared to do becomes possible and conceivable through a strong connection. Every person leaves something of themselves behind wherever they go, and often we are not even aware of it. In particular, it often becomes clear how many impressions a person has left behind when they are no longer physically with us. So many stories, moments of remembrance come together and it is almost like getting to know a person again in a completely different, a completely new way. It makes every single story, every memory and every moment of coming together in remembrance of a loved one all the more precious.
In remembrance of all those who have fallen in the struggle for revolutionary change, in union with those who are fighting for revolutionary change and in hope for a liberated world, we will steadily continue the quest for a free life.
