Inflation rate in April stands at 10,94%

Consumer prices in Turkey went up 10.94% in April compared to the same month last year, the country's statistical authority, TÜİK, said today. 

In the month of April change in consumer price index saw a rise of 0.85% on a monthly basis, official data showed with garlic and onions being the products that increased the most in price in April.

Economists expected a 0.72% monthly rise in consumer prices index, ranged between 0.17%, at its lowest, and 1.4%, at its highest.

According to the data, other main groups, where the increase was low compared to the same month of the previous year, were clothing and footwear with 4.90 percent, entertainment and culture with 4.91 percent and transport with 5.54 percent, respectively.

In contrast, increase was higher compared to the same month of the previous year, in alcoholic drinks and tobacco with 31.32 percent, various goods and services with 20.34 percent, and housing with 14.52 percent, respectively.

The average price of 270 items increased in April 2020.

Further more, according to 12-month averages, inflation increased by 12.66 percent.
