International Delegation Against Isolation visits political parties in Turkey

Members of the ‘International Delegation Against Isolation’ which was formed to protest the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and is currently on a visit to Turkey, met with representatives of political parties.

A delegation of the ‘International Delegation Against Isolation’, consisting of 36 lawyers, journalists and academics from 7 different countries to denounce the heavy isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in Turkish custody, continues its visits to political parties and civil society organizations in Amed, Istanbul and Ankara. Members of the delegation in Istanbul are today visiting the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), the Greens and Left Future Party (Green-Left Party), the Socialist Solidarity Platform (SODAP), the Labour Party (EMEP) and the Revolutionary Party.

ISOLATION AND POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS ADDRESSED

The delegation first visited the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) in the Fatih district of Istanbul. ESP Co-Chair Özlem Gümüştaş and Party Assembly members Ezgi Gürbüz and Meral Tatar welcomed the 6 members of the delegation, accompanied by Rengîn Ergül, Secretary General of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) and lawyer Bülent Aşa, a member of the ÖHD. In a meeting, the isolation of Öcalan, rights violations in prisons and the Kurdish region, political developments in Turkey and the closure case against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) were discussed. The meeting was held closed to the press.

The delegation will visit the Green-Left Party after its meeting with the ESP.
