International participation in the day of action "Defend Kurdistan"

Thousands of people around the world participated in the international day of action of the initiative #DefendKurdistan against the Turkish occupation.

Demonstrations for the international day of action of "Defend Kurdistan" took place in dozens of countries on Saturday, including England, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, France and Cyprus. Thousands of people made it clear that Kurdistan must be defended against the Turkish occupation.

London

In London, a loud and colorful alliance demonstration took place from Trafalgar Square to Parliament, emphasizing the importance of internationalist solidarity. In addition to numerous organizations from England, Kurdistan and Turkey, anti-fascists from Brazil were also present in the action.

 

Basel

A march was staged in Basel from Bahnhofsplatz to Claramatte with sit-ins in between. The co-chairman of the Democratic Kurdish Community of Switzerland, Ismail Kardaş, called on Kurds to unite and warned of a civil war in Southern Kurdistan. Journalist Franziska Stier, party secretary of Basel's Strong Alternative (BastA!), reported about the international peace delegation to South Kurdistan and the obstruction by the German and KDP authorities.

 

Helsinki

In the Finnish capital Helsinki, a demonstration drew attention to the successful struggle of the Kurdish movement against Islamists and called for solidarity. The final rally ended with a performance by the music group Rhythm of Resistance.

 

Rome

An internationalist rally has taken place in Rome.

 

Rennes

Numerous people have also taken to the streets in France, including in Rennes. In Paris and other cities, the "Defend Kurdistan" actions are taking place today.

 

Nicosia

A demonstration in Nicosia, Cyprus, protested against Turkish expansionism and German support for the Erdogan regime.

 

Oslo

In Oslo, capital of Norway, Kurds, revolutionaries and Norwegian friends of the Kurds protested Turkey’s genocidal attacks in Kurdistan and highlighted the importance of peoples’ joint struggle against fascism.

Speaking here, Defend Kurdistan Initiative Spokesperson Lida Weerts pointed to the role of the capitalist system in rights violations and crimes against humanity.

“While the Kurdish people’s fight against fascism and mercenaries continues, NATO member Turkey is bombing the Kurds, and the lands of Kurdistan and Iraq,” Weerts said.
