Iran foreign minister arrives in Ankara

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salihi has arrived in Ankara on Friday to have talks with both Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan and President Abdullah Gül.

Salihi will probably have talks with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoðlu before meeting the president and prime minister.

Talks are expected to deal especially with Iran's position as to the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) in the light of the last wave of attacks.

Salihi's visit follows that by Nechirvan Barzani, the number two of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and former prime minister of the Kurdish regional administration in northern Iraq.

During his visit, Barzani said he came to Ankara to agree on further cooperation with Turkey against the PKK. He added the regional administration's cooperation with Turkey will expand in many areas.

Turkey has been working hard in the past years to create an economic dependence which would make very difficult for both Iran and the Kurdish regional government to deny cooperation against the PKK.
