Mehdi Afsharzadeh, a freelance journalist and political activist who came to Turkey due to the pressures in Iran, ended his life in Sivas.

Afsharzadeh posted the following statement on his social media account on 13 August: "It finally arrived... I did my best as a reporter and human rights activist, but nothing changed. I failed, I lost, I apologize for all the shortcomings."
