Iraq’s statement on the “freezing of the referendum”

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari responded to KDP’s statement that they are ready to freeze the referendum from Moscow.
Al-Jaafari said they will assess the proposal to freeze the referendum “within the framework of the constitution”.
Iraqi Foreign Minister said: “The whole world was against the referendum, the European Union, Arab countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation were all against the referendum. But unfortunately, Barzani insisted.”
As Al-Jaafari was making these statements, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi was in a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Southern Kurdistan Regional Administration had announced yesterday at midnight that they are prepared to freeze the referendum held on September 25 and start negotiations in return for the attacks and the advance of Iraqi forces and Hashd al-Shaabi to stop.
