In the morning session today, the Iraqi Parliament voted against the referendum planned for September 25 in Southern Kurdistan by a majority.
The Iraqi Parliament authorized Prime Minister Haydar Al Abadî to “take precautions regarding the referendum” and to “protect the territorial integrity of Iraq”.
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Iraqi MP Mihemed Osman said the resolution was prepared in accordance with a written inquiry submitted by 80 Iraqi MPs.
Osman said the Kurdish MPs in the Iraqi parliament did not know about this draft bill and left the parliament general assembly in protest.
