Iraqi PM Abadi to visit Ankara tomorrow

Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi will visit Turkey tomorrow to meet with his counterpart Binali Yıldırım.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi will visit Turkey on October 25 to meet with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

According to Turkish media, the visit will be about “developing the cooperation between Turkey and Iraq to contribute to regional peace, stability and security” and the referendum in Southern Kurdistan.

As the Mosul operation of October 2016 was launching, the Turkish state had dispatched soldiers to Bashiqa with support from the KDP and insisted on participating in the operation, which had led to tensions between Turkey and Iraq.

Iraq had complained about Turkey in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan had said (addressing Abadi), “You are not of my caliber, my quality.” Binali Yıldırım had addressed Abadi and said, “Manage to be an actual state first.”

In the crisis, the KDP had supported Turkey. But after the referendum in Southern Kurdistan, Iraq and the Turkish state set aside their conflicts and launched an operation on Kirkuk.
