ISIS killed at least 17 Syrian and Iranian militiamen yesterday in an attack in southern Damascus, and in the last two and a half weeks, 179 soldiers and militiamen have been killed by ISIS.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has issued a statement stating that the Islamic State (ISIS) has attacked forces of the Syrian in southern state of Suwayda. The attack killed six Syrian soldiers and nine Iranian militiamen.

Accordingly, the attack took place in the desert region of Suwayda and the Syrian state forces have not received any support from the Russian Air Force although the attacks had been going on since May 22. SOHR reported that in the past 17 days, 179 Syrian soldiers and militiamen have been killed by ISIS attacks. 89 ISIS members were also killed during clashes so far.

The Observatory reports that ISIS has occupied four other settlements in Suwayda to date. Only last Sunday, ISIS conquered four other settlements in Deir ez-Zor countryside close to the Iraqi border, which were previously under the control of the Syrian state forces. Three of these were later reported retaken by the regime.
