Italians in solidarity with Kurds join the hunger strike protest

While the indefinite hunger strike of two activists in the Hague approaches the 80th day, the hunger strike in Rome entered day 17, joined by Italians in solidarity with the demand of the Kurdish activists.

The Kurdish hunger strike action started by HDP MP Leyla Güven continues with the participation of thousands of prisoners in Turkish jails as well as dozens of activists in Turkey, Kurdistan, Europe and all around the world. The protest demands the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

THE HAGUE

Hüseyin Yıldız and Hasbi Çakıcı, who are also on an indefinite hunger strike, in the Hague city of the Netherlands are on their day of 78 and 77 respectively.

Both activists are reported to be in good morale despite their deteriorating health, particularly experiencing stomach and abdominal pains in addition to dizziness.

ROME

In Italian capital Rome, the hunger strike protest started by Erol Aydemir continues on the 17th day.

The Kurdish Committee has also launched a two-day solidarity hunger strike in solidarity with the Kurdish activists against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan.

On the other hand, Italian female activist Sveva Haerter has launched a three-day solidarity hunger strike, while Italian former senator Giovanni Russo Spenna will go on a two-day solidarity hunger strike on Monday.

In the meantime, Italian friends of Kurds from the “Rete Kurdistan” network have also announced going on an alternating hunger strike.
