Saturday, March 24 to mark the world day of mobilization for Afrin against the invasion of Turkey, Csa Intifada/Comunità in Resistenza and Cobas Empoli-Valdelsa took to the streets, like as many as 20 cities in Italy. Responding to an appeal by Rete Kurdistan solidarity actions have multiplied in Italy and many squares have been taken for the whole day by social centres, trade unions, activists, organizations.

In their press release, the organisers remembered to “adhere to the international appeal launched by our Kurdish comrades to go to the streets of the whole world in solidarity with Afrin against the Turkish invasion”.

In the past few days Empoli has organised several actions also to mark the approval of a motion by the city council condemning the bombing of the Canton of Afrin by the Turkish army flanked by jihadist gangs.

The motion was sent to the Turkish embassy in Rome, the Turkish consulate in Florence and Turkish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels.

Many women, children and young people on Saturday in Pavia have participated to the demo for Afrin. Many slogans against Turkish President Recepp Tayyip and his attempt to silence what is perhaps the only example today of true and participated democracy from below.

Turin has also demonstrated as it has done since the beginning of the aggression against Afrin on 20 January. The rally had hit specific targets, like the bank Unicredit punished for having made deals with Erdogan.

Italian party/movement Potere al Popolo has organized a picket in Ravenna to express solidarity with the Kurdish people but also with the oppressed people of the Middle East, who are suffering from the aggressions by Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Likewise demonstrations and actions have been held in Bari, where the parade was opened by a banner with the photo of YPJ international fighter Anna Campbell, Hêlîn, who fell martyr in Afrin on March 16, 2018 when the convoy she was in was targeted by Turkish jets.

In the meantime, the Facebook profile of Rete Kurdistan, as well as many activists' Facebook profiles, have been shut down in previous days.
