Jelpke calls for repatriation of German ISIS members held by YPG

Ulla Jelpke calls on the federal government to establish official relations with the administration in northern Syria, including to bring to justice ISIS members with German citizenship who are imprisoned in northern Syria.

Ulla Jelpke, the spokesperson for internal affairs of the Left Party in the German Parliament, called on the federal government to bring back the ISIS militia officers from Germany who had been taken captive by the YPG. Jelpke told AFP that ISIS terrorists in Germany must be brought to justice.

"These criminals have started from here and for that reason it is our duty to bring them to justice here as well," the left-wing parliamentarian said. "In the north of Syria, war continues to prevail, which is why local conditions for a trial are not met.”

In addition, Jelpke called on the federal government to establish official contact with the democratic administration in northern Syria. The Federal Government claims that due to the lack of diplomatic contacts, it is not possible to retrieve captured German ISIS members. Jelpke called on the federal government to solve this problem. "Unfortunately, I cannot see that the federal government is doing something serious here," she continues.

Accoridng to Jelpke, there are currently 33 ISIS members and their family members in the hands of the YPG/YPJ, 8 eight men, 10 women and 15 children and minors.
